Handbooks and tables

The need for factual information often arises during the work process and usually takes the form of a specific information requirement in order to continue working. This type of specific information can be found in tables, charts, dictionaries and factual data banks. You need a quick and reliable answer to a query - for example, the melting point of an alloy or the characteristics of a certain component. Handbooks and tables are renewed at frequent intervals, so make sure that you are using the most recent edition.

In chemistry the question of where to find data is very important. First you have to know where and how to find the data, then there is the question of the reliability of the data found. Experiments can lead to conflicting findings, so evaluative compilations are valuable. This section will include a selection of data compilations useful in chemistry and chemical engineering.

Physical Property Information - Indiana University.

NIST - The National Institute of Standards and Technology. This site provides thermochemical, thermophysical, and ion energetics data compiled by NIST under the Standard Reference Data Program.

CODATA - the Committee on Data for Science and Technology of the International Council of Scientific Unions was formed to support the production and distribution of collections of critically evaluated numeric data in science and technology. CODATA produces a Directory of Data Sources for Science and Technology, which is published in the CODATA Bulletin an irregular serial publication.

University of Texas´s ThermoDex - An index of selected Thermodynamic Data Handbooks.

Sheffield ChemPuter - Interactive calculators for chemistry.

Entisoft Units Measurement Conversion Calculator

Dave's Maths Tables - Basic Identities, Conic Sections, Polynomials, Exponents, Algebra Graphs, Areas, Volumes, Surface Areas, | Circles, Transforms, etc.

Chemfinder

Integrated Spectral Data Base System for Organic Compounds - Spectra from National Institute and Chemical Research, Japan.

Other compilations such as Periodic Table:

Scientific constants - are also available over the Internet:

Other important sources of factual information are encyclopedias.
