A periodical containing scholarly articles. A periodical publication, particularly one issued by a society or institution and containing proceedings, transactions, reports, substantial articles and reviews of publications in a particular scholarly or scientific field. The connotation is one of quality and reliability, and the term leadred journal is often used. The term has almost entirely lost its meaning, derived from the French usage, of daily newspaper.
