Antanas Purėnas was a lecturer at Higher Courses in 1921–1922, in 1922 was a professor of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Lithuania and Head of Department of Organic Chemistry. In 1922–1926 A. Purėnas was a secretary of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and in 1924–1925 – secretary of the University. Later he worked at that position at Faculty of Technologies at Vytautas Magnus University and Faculty of Chemical Technologies at Kaunas Polytechnic Institute. He was a Head of Department until 1962, in 1933-1940 he was Vice-Rector and in 1940–1941 and 1944-1947 Rector of the University.

Liuda Purėnienė, A. Purėnas’ wife, handed over his personal library, collected by her husband throughout the years, to KTU library. In 2014 this collection of books, manuscripts and science related documents was taken over by Library's Rare Publications Group. Diversity and exclusivity of order of this collection inspired an interest in the work of A. Purėnas at the university as well as his personality, as scientist, educator, press and public figure.

Exhibition prepared by Dr E. Korzonaitė, Chief Librarian of Rare Publications Group.
